THE DISPATCH

The Tom of Finland Foundation has announced that its Sixth Annual New York City Erotic Art Fair Weekend will be held Friday through Sunday, May 19, 20, and 21, 2006, at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Community Center, 208 West 13th Street. Official Sponsors include The Consulate General of Finland in New York, and The Center.

An Artists Reception on Friday evening from 7:00 to 10:30 PM will mark the official start of the Weekend and the Fair will be open to the public on Saturday from noon to 6:00 PM, and on Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. On Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM, the Foundation will host a panel discussion on "Gay Culture In New York: Past and Present," featuring Durk Dehner, cofounder and director of the Foundation, and Charles W. Leslie, cofounder of the Leslie-Lohman Gay Art Foundation. On Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM, author Perry Brass will present an illustrated lecture on "Return to the Greenwood," about the importance of nature in queer art.

At the Fair, the Foundation will also display a rough sketch by Tom of Finland, never before seen in public, which has been designated by the Foundation as the "Image of the Year" - the centerpiece of all Foundation publicity in 2006.

The Foundation is currently celebrating its 21st Anniversary. Its mission is to protect, preserve and promote erotic art. The Erotic Art Fairs provide an opportunity for artists from around the world to display their work, no matter the gender, sexual orientation, or medium of expression.

The Foundation has produced Erotic Art Fair Weekends in Los Angeles since 1995, and held the first Weekend in New York in 2001. The Foundation's other activities include archiving the work of erotic artists; hosting symposiums and other educational events; and sponsoring a biennial Emerging Erotic Artist Contest, in which artists new to the field of erotica are given the opportunity to submit their work to an international panel of judges, who award prizes in several categories.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and the Erotic Art Fair Weekends serve as fundraisers. Donations are deductible to the extent allowed by law.
