THE 12TH ANNUAL
WEST HOLLYWOOD - LOS ANGELES
EROTIC ART FAIR WEEKEND
OCTOBER 6, 7, AND 8, 2006

         plus:

The Foundation Bestows
THREE MAJOR AWARDS
The stars will turn out as Rod McKuen, Harvey S. Shipley Miller, and Michael Childers are honored at the Foundation’s Annual Awards Banquet.

The 12th Annual Tom of Finland Foundation Erotic Art Fair Weekend will take place October 6, 7, and 8, 2006. Opening festivities begin with an Artists' Reception on Friday evening, featuring a newly-curated exhibition of three floors of artworks from the Foundation’s Permanent Collection. Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be served.

The Erotic Art Fair is open both Saturday and Sunday, in West Hollywood’s Plummer Park. It is co-sponsored by the Consulate General of Finland in Los Angeles; the City of West Hollywood; the City of West Hollywood Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission; the City of West Hollywood Lesbian & Gay Advisory Board, and the West Hollywood Convention and Visitors Bureau. We also salute Frontiers Magazine, MJ’s Dance Bar, and Smirnoff for their support.

On both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, at the Fair, panel discussions and life drawing demos, with artists and models, will be featured.

The Weekend serves as a fundraising event for the Foundation, and provides a unique opportunity for erotic artists from around the world to display and sell their work to the public. The educational value of the Fairs is enormous: for many, artists and public alike, the Fairs provide the only venue in which erotic art can be displayed, enjoyed, and purchased. The Foundation’s staff curates the Fair, to ensure a variety of styles and media.

The 2006 Erotic Art Fair expects to host more than 80 artists, from around the globe. Virtually every medium is represented: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and digital work. The Foundation strives to include work representing all genders and sexual orientations. When the Foundation presented the first Fair in 1995, it was the only event of its kind; the Fair continues to be one of the largest events in the world dedicated to providing erotic artists an opportunity to showcase and sell their work to the public.

THIS YEARS AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

At the Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday evening, the 2006 Lifetime Achievement and Cultural Icon Awards will be presented, and an induction into our Erotic Artist Hall of Fame. Presenters include comedian Bruce Vilanch, author Christopher Rice, and other stars yet-to-be announced.

The Foundation will bestow the Cultural Icon Award on poet and songwriter Rod McKuen. The more than 1,500 songs penned by McKuen include such standards as Love's Been Good To Me, Jean, I Think of You, Rock Gently, The World I Used to Know, Without a Worry in the World, A Boy Named Charlie Brown, Joanna, and I'll Catch the Sun. His film music has twice been nominated for Academy Awards (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and A Boy Named Charlie Brown). MORE...

Previous recipients include heavy metal rocker Rob Halford; author and filmmaker Clive Barker; social critic Camille Paglia; and activist and artist Ivy Bottini.

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Harvey S. Shipley Miller. Mr. Shipley Miller has an extensive career as a foundation trustee and philanthropist. Among his publications are: Milton Avery: Drawings and Paintings, 1976 and New Spaces: Exploring the Aesthetic Dimensions of Holography, 1979. MORE...

Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Hugh Hefner; Larry Flynt; Benedikt Taschen; Durk Dehner; Charles Leslie and Frederic Lohman; and Edward Lucie-Smith.

The 2006 inductee into the Erotic Artist Hall of Fame is photographer Michael Childers. Mr. Childers is most well known for his career photographing the stars of Hollywood and the art world including Natalie Wood, John Travolta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Hockney and Andy Warhol. But it was Childers’ erotic photography that prompted the L.A Weekly to call him “a cross between Helmut Newton and Oscar Wilde.” His nudes have been published in his book Hollywood Voyeur and many anthologies. His exhibit Icons and Legends at the Palm Springs Museum was one of the best attended exhibits in the museum’s history. MORE...

Previous inductees to the Hall of Fame include H. R. Giger; Bill Schmelling aka The Hun; Michael Kirwan; Pierre et Gilles; and, posthumously, Tom of Finland and Herb Ritts.
