TOM OF FINLAND FOUNDATION presents the 17th Annual West Hollywood Los Angeles Erotic Art Fair Weekend (WHLA EAFW), September 28 – 30.

On Monday, August 20th, West Hollywood City Council voted to co-sponsor the WHLA EAFW and enthusiastically gave the event their solid support. The City has co-sponsored the event each year since 2003, beginning with the 9th Annual Tom of Finland Foundation Erotic Art Weekend, held in Plummer Park in 2003. The Fairs were held in Plummer Park from 2003 to 2006, and in West Hollywood Park from 2007 to 2011.

“There are very few communities in America where erotic art can be displayed in such a way that the community is supportive of that presentation. And the City of West Hollywood is one of those places where we are not afraid of human sexuality.” – John J. Duran, West Hollywood Councilmember

The WHLA EAFW kicks off with a public reception for artists, collectors and all who enjoy art at TOM House on Laveta Terrace in Echo Park on September 28. Many new works from Tom of Finland Foundation’s (ToFF) Permanent Collection will be on exhibit throughout the House for this spectacular opening party. It is also an opportunity to visit Tom’s attic studio, along with the rest of the three floors of this magnificent early 20th century residence / museum.

ToFF asks for a voluntary contribution of $10 at the door for the general public and $8 for non-Fair artists and current Foundation members.

The Fair opens to the public on Saturday & Sunday at Fiesta Hall in Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, California 90046. A suggested donation of $10 will be requested for admission to the Fair from the public (good for both days), and $8 from Foundation members (also good for both days). Over the past 17 years people have come from all around the world to view and become acquainted with the works of a multitude of artists. See stunning examples of sculpture, photography, paintings, sketches, digital renderings and much more, all in some way celebrating aspects of the LGBT experience. Artwork will also be available for purchase and all major credit cards will be gladly accepted.

The American launch of the new anthology, Tom of Finland: Life and Work of a Gay Hero, will also take place at the Art Fair. The book chronicles Tom’s life with never-before seen photographs from his childhood and features some of Tom’s rare works and quite a few images long-believed to be missing or lost. Patrons may purchase a copy and the authors, F.Valentine Hooven, III, Durk Dehner and S.R. Sharp, will be there both days to discuss and personally autograph the book.

Symposiums will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM. There will also be life drawing and photography sessions each afternoon featuring different models each day; all are invited to bring their art supplies and take advantage of this opportunity.

“In this place where we all come together we have to remember that for so many years, these artists have represented us. They have been a source of pride for us, they’ve given us identity when we didn’t have one. When we were weak and emaciated and dying, they gave us powerful images, they gave us hope. They really have been our identity so when we bring our Art Fair here there is an opportunity for everyone to see themselves in the art.” – S.R. Sharp, Vice President | Curator, ToFF
