DISPATCH FALL 2002

SUCCESS IN THE BIG APPLE

The Tom of Finland Foundation hosted its Second Annual New York City Erotic Art Fair this past July, and number two was even bigger and better than the inaugural. With 35 artists' booths, more than 50 artists represented, and over 800 in attendance, sales topped $21,000 during the three day weekend event. Our hosts at The Center in Chelsea were both gracious and accommodating, and the synergy generated between the artists and the attendees suggests that it was a cultural experience for all concerned.

Just a glimpse of the growing NYC Fair

As in LA., the artist and model demonstration is a popular attraction

Artists who have attended fairs in both Los Angeles and Manhattan enjoyed the contrast between the two. Our sincere gratitude to HX Magazine, our main media sponsor; The Center, for providing the space which made it possible; and the Leslie-Lohman Foundation, Visual Arts, the New York Body Archive, Wessel-O'Connor, GMSMA, and Art@Large, all of whom assisted us by promoting the event to their memberships.

We thank you all for your support and fellowship in this collaboration.

Already wall-to-wall with art in its second year, the buzz for next year's N.Y.C. Fair is already in the air

David Manley has also recently had work featured for purchase in the Erotic Art Gallery

Robert Richards (l), well known illustrator, is a veteran of the Fairs on both coasts

Amid the artwork, a few NYC-chic fashion statements stood out as well.

MATTERS OF SIZE
“Cock size doesn’t matter to me. I didn’t start doing those gigantic cocks until the censors let the magazines publish full frontal nudity. I had to come up with something you couldn’t get in a photograph. So those big cocks are all for the other guys — I’m an ass man myself.” — Tom of Finland
