Opening Reception: Thursday, September 10, 7-9 PM

Ivy Bottini is one of the undisputed heroes in the long struggle for equality and justice for women and the LGBT community.
But even before her career as an activist began in 1966, she started creating brilliant artworks and has never stopped.

The Advocate & Gochis Galleries are honored to present a retro-spective of pieces from Ms. Bottini’s extraordinary body of work, covering the entire sweep of her career – from her days in the closet through her years of activism.

"Join us as we celebrate more than 55 years of activist and iconic paintings, drawings and sketches. A Life In Art celebrates Ivy Bottini’s journey of coming into her identity. The art is a deeply personal and beautiful portrait of a life that expresses art."

MALE MUSE
"Whenever I was depressed or disgusted, I would feel him, that spirit inside, urging me back to living, back to drawing, I believe there is a lot to the world that can’t be seen or touched, and if you turn away from that — especially if you are an artist — you are avoiding an important part of life, maybe the very heart of it.” — Tom of Finland
