Artist Donald Rizzo’s “Maskamorphic” at kink cafe Wicked Grounds

Wicked Grounds is very excited to announce “Maskamorphic”, a solo exhibition by local San Francisco artist, Donald Rizzo. An insightful, and at times humorous, collection of paintings which explores the psychology of wearing Masks. From the “Twisted Trojan” to the “Cottaging Monkey”, these and many more will be on display from December 21st, 2015 until March 21st, 2016 with an opening reception Saturday January 16th from 6PM until 8PM.

“We all wear masks,” admits artist Donald Rizzo. “Whether it be furries, drag queens, or internet trolls. Our masks come from our desire to show, the true self, the inner core of our being. Our masks are modeled and fitted in our awareness of humility, creativity, compassion, and all the positive attributes one has as well as the ugliness that we have carried and learned from the past.”

Mo Stoycoff, co-owner of Wicked Grounds, and curator of the show commented “We have a desire to present ourselves the way we wish others to see us. Do we want another to accept us? Do we want someone to be afraid of us? Do we want love? The exploration of self is a trip that is not without its pitfalls, and Donald captures these sentiments in these paintings.”

Donald Rizzo is an artist who sees the world through fragments; fragments of color, fragments of memory, fragments of space, and fragments of who people really are. His works are kaleidoscopic visions of vibrant color which stem from his dark personal experience dealing with depression with psychotic symptoms. Donald is nothing short of being his truest self and showcasing his unique eye that allows his viewers to create their own reality of what they see in his images.

Wicked Grounds is San Francisco’s first and only kink cafe and boutique, located at 289 8th Street, San Francisco, CA. They host a wide variety of BDSM-related events, including workshops, classes, social gatherings, and art shows.

Wicked Grounds hours of operation: Mon and Tues 8am – 10pm; Wed, Thur, Fri 8am – 11pm; Sat 11am – 11pm and Sun: 11am – 10pm.
