Opening reception: Friday, December 2
Artist Larry Wood presents a unique form of figure drawing.
Narrow strips of steel are turned into monochromatic imagery depicting
the male and female form. An architectural metals fabricator by trade,
Wood has married his professional expertise with prior classical training
in drawing. Wood has developed a way to draw nuances of curve, shadow
and line of the human torso on six and eight foot steel sheets without
the use of cameras, brushes, inks or pigments.
The imagery is hand-etched into the metal sheets using
chemicals and abrasives. The reflective nature of the metal sheets
on which they are made gives each image an eerie living quality from
the surrounding light reflecting off the art as the viewer moves past.
They are light recorded by hand.
